Surrey late-night venue gets sonic boost Print
Thursday, 15 March 2007

With the arrival of the new licensing laws, Surrey commuter-town Godalming has seen significant changes in the past months.  Competition for late night entertainment venues has become more intense, and due to this The House of Blues has undergone a complete sound system revamp by Surrey-based manufacturer EM Acoustics.

A popular venue since it’s opening two years ago, The House of Blues is now verging on a nightclub with 2am licences for Friday and Saturday nights with DJs playing as standard.  The venue also plays host to live acts, quiz nights and big-screen sports fixture showings.   Under instruction from owner Nick McCann, the venue has recently undergone a major cosmetic facelift to modernize it, and as part of this improvement he approached EM Acoustics to revitalise the ageing sound system.

The system comprises eight EMS-81 loudspeakers – four concentrated above the dancefloor area and four distributed throughout the rest of the bar.  Two EMS-215 dual 15 inch quasi-bandpass subwoofers underpin the whole system, which is powered by Yamaha amplifiers with a Cloud venue processor to allow independent control over the two distinct areas of the bar. The EM system now gives the House of Blues arguably the best sound systems in the town, yet another trump card to attract the town’s finite amount of customers into the venue every weekend.
