October 2006 saw the Diesel U-Music awards televised across the nation, where new artists battled it out for the top positions. Supplying the audio for the audience were Woking-based rental house Sound by Design, under the watchful eye of senior engineer Dave Shepherd. Shepherd chose a system from EM Acoustics for the event, which comprised a left-right FOH stack of EMS-152 fullrange enclosures underpinned by MSE_118 Quake subwoofers, powered by Powersoft Digam K10 amplifiers. To cover the VIP area around the balcony, eight i-2 compact fill loudspeakers were flown from the front edge of the balcony area. The system was mixed through a Digico D1 Live console. Shepherd also handled front of house duties for the event, for those artists not bringing their own engineers. In monitor land, Dan Ungaretti was also behind a D1 console, with Sound by Design's stock of EM Acoustics M-12s 12" x 1.4" monitor enclosures on stage, with a EMS-215 dual 15" sub as a drum fill.
