EM Acoustics for Jason Robert Brown PDF Print

Jason Robert Brown's musical "Parade" recently opened at the Donmar Theatre in London.  Sound design fell to Autograph Sound Recording's Nick Lidster and Terry Jardine - a design partnership which has recently been heard on Sinatra at the London Palladium and A Model Girl at the Greenwich Theatre.

Due to the awkward acoustics and layout of the Donmar, Lidster and Jardine favoured a ribbon-based LDS line system for main reinforcement, however when it came to the low frequency they chose EM Acoustics' compact ULF subwoofers - the miniscule i-8 quad 8" and it's bigger brother, the venue-shaking i-12 quad 12" design.  Both of these products have been used on a selection of West End and Broadway shows by other designers, including Dirty Dancing (London) , Les Miserables (Broadway), as well as EM Acoustics' other products being used on both West End and Broadway productions of Journey's End.

The combination of products has proved to be extremely successful, with one reviewer from "Variety" commenting “Applause breaks are limited to the curtain at the end of each act, making transitions between dialogue and song utterly seamless. This is aided by a first-rate sound design”.

EM Acoustics have a histroy with Jason Robert Brown, having provided the reinforcement systems for two year's worth of winter productions at the New Player's Theatre, where the virtuoso composer was joined by faces from London's West End for several evenings of intimite renditions of his music.

EM Acoustics' Mike Wheeler adds "We were thrilled to hear that the i-8 and i-12 had been chosen for Parade.  Having worked on the New Player's shows over the past couple of years, we were very glad that Terry Jardine and Nick Lidster decided to go with EM Acoustics for the low end."
